Annual Show 2021 and more!

Updated: 1 September 2021

The results and photos of the ‘virtual’ Annual Show are now revealed, along with photos from last Saturday’s ‘HOE! not the Show’.

We had 283 entries this year and the eight judges who viewed their relevant section were not told who had submitted the entries, as each of the photos was anonymised.

Congratulations to the winners and runners-up and thank you to everyone who took part! One of the judges said there was a lot of creativity in the entries and we totally agree with that.

If you came to the ‘HOE! not the Show’ we hope you saw the display in the Kirk – pictured here – of the 50 winning entries.

Annual Show 2021

Updated: 10th August 2021

In 2020 it was held "virtually" for the first time, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and in 2021 we did the same -- due to the ongoing restrictions -- but also held a Horticultural Outdoor Event.

We have come up with a special way to commemorate the 155th Annual Show, due to the lingering Covid-19 restrictions.

Although there isn’t a physical Show, we are holding the Show competition online, as well as holding a Horticultural Outdoor Event — a HOE! — that meets the Covid-19 guidance so we can socialise safely. Read more about the “HOE! not the Show”

Flyers with details of the online Show and the classes and categories have been hand-delivered by our lovely volunteers across Killearn.

There are half a dozen or so new classes and we even have a Covid-19 related theme.

Don't forget to check the Rules and remember, it’s only one entry per person per class — so you could make one entry in D2 and one entry in D5. But not two entries in D2 — choose wisely!

The results will be posted here after the “HOE! not the Show” — along with every single valid entry photo — but before that we’ll be putting large printed photos of the 50 or so winning entries on display at the “HOE! not the Show”.

As a bonus, first prize winners will receive in September a large photo of their entry.

Summary 2021:

  • We’ll be putting large printed photos of the winning entries on display in the village.

  • As a bonus, first prize winners of the online Show will receive a large printed photo of their entry.

From the Chair of the Society

25 June 2021

“Sadly, the restrictions mean the Horticultural Society are unable to hold a physical Show, but we are planning an outdoor event that meets the Covid-19 guidance and also guarantees that we can socialise safely.

“Therefore, not only will we be holding the Show competition online, we’ll be putting large photos of the winning entries on display in the village and, as a bonus, first prize winners will receive a large photo of their entry..

“Although the restrictions mean we are unable to hold a physical Show, we are planning an outdoor event on 28th August – not the Show – in the village that meets Covid-19 guidance and guarantees we can socialise safely. Although it is still in the ‘seedling’ stage, we’ll announce a fully-bloomed event in early August.

“Obviously, the Horti has to consider people’s safety first and foremost and so we hope people won’t be too disappointed that we are unable to hold a building-based Show this year. But I encourage you to post your entries online, save the 28th date and make 2021 a bigger success than last year! ”
